Theory Test
Before you are allowed to make a booking for the practical driving test, you will need to have passed the UK driving theory test. The test is conducted at a dedicated theory test centre using a touch screen computer.
The theory test has two parts – multiple choice and hazard perception. The multiple choice part has 50 questions. Each one has four possible answers and you need to select the one correct answer. The pass mark is 43 out of 50.
After the questions have finished, the hazard perception part iof the test will start. This consists of 13 clips of film containing a total of 15 developing hazards which you have to identify by clicking the mouse button. The sooner you identify each hazard the better your score, with a maximum of 5 points per scoring hazard. The pass mark is 44 out of a possible 75. You are required to pass both parts of the theory test at the same time.
When you have passed the theory test you can then discuss with your instructor whether you are ready to apply for a practical driving test.
